Frequently Asked Questions

Are parking permits oversold?
Yes. Each parking permit color has an oversell percentage based on the the type of permit (commuter or residential), the number of available spaces, and lot utilization data that is collected throughout the year. It is Parking and Transportation Services goal to reach optimal utilization (90 - 95% capacity) in all parking lots. At this level of utilization valuable parking resources are being efficiently used and not sitting vacant. Additionally, oversell of permits is necessary due to the fact that not all permit holders are parked on campus at one time. Vehicles come and go and in order to maintain a high level of utilization, an oversell of permits is necessary.
Can I buy a parking permit for just one semester? I won't be here for the spring semester.
Parking permits purchased at the beginning of the fall semester are sold at the annual permit rate, and are valid for the entire year. However, if you will no longer need a parking permit after the fall semester, or anytime during the year, you may return the parking permit for a pro-rated refund.

To return a permit you need to bring the permit into the Parking Office.

Permit refunds are pro-rated on a weekly basis, view the current permit purchase and refund schedule to find out how much you may be refunded depending on when you return your permit.
Can I have someone else pick up my permit for me if I am not able to make it to the Parking Office?
Yes. You need to send an email to parking@uidaho.edu with the full name of the person who will be picking up your permit. This person needs to bring picture ID with them. They may pick up your permit at the Parking Office anytime Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Do I need a permit to park on campus?
Yes. Parking lots on campus are designated by signage and a lot color. Permits are required Monday – Friday, 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. There are some spaces and/or lots that require permits until 9 p.m. or at all times (24 hours). It is very important to observe signage as you enter a parking lot and at individual parking spaces.

The Parking Committee appeal decision letter will be emailed to the email address you provided. If no email address was provided, you will receiveĀ a letter in the mail.

I ordered a permit online a while ago, but haven't received it yet. Can you tell me where my permit is?
If you haven't yet received a permit that you ordered online more than two weeks ago, it is very likely that you did not select a delivery option, and your delivery method defaulted to "pick-up in office". This means that your permit is probably at the Parking Office. Stop by anytime Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. to pick up your permit. Picture ID is required.

I will be living in a Greek house, how do I get a Purple parking permit?
House presidents are responsible for making in-house members eligible to purchase Purple parking permits. If you do not see a Purple permit as an option online when attempting to purchase a permit, contact your house president and ask them to make you eligible. They will need your student ID number. Once they make you eligible you can go online to buy your permit or purchase it at the Parking Office.
What do I do if I have more than one citation, but the same reason for appealing them?

An appeal should be submitted for each individual citation number, even if the appeal statement is the same.

When are parking lots enforced?
View the parking lot enforcement schedule for a detailed description of parking permit requirements and lot enforcement information.
When will I hear of my appeal decision?

The Parking Committee meets once a month during the academic year and less often during the summer break. For this reason, notification of the Committees decision may take up to 6 weeks from the date an appeal is submitted.

Where does revenue from citations go?
Parking and Transportation Services is a self-supporting operation, meaning that there is no outside financial support received. Sufficient revenue must be generated in order to maintain operations and provide for all parking and transportation related services on campus. Revenue generated from citation payments makes up a portion of Parking and Transportation Services total revenue and is utilized to maintain the parking system.
Who approves the parking permit prices?
Parking permit fees undergo an annual proposal process, which includes a public comment period, as well as a review of the proposal by faculty senate, staff affairs, and ASUI Senate. After receiving comments on the proposed fees, Parking and Transportation Services prepares recommended fees and submits then for approval to university administration.
Why is overnight parking not allowed in some lots on campus?
Overnight parking is not allowed in certain parking lots on campus (as designated by signage), unless an Overnight permit is displayed, in order to allow for effective snow removal operations during the winter months, maintenance, early morning event lot reservations, and to ensure daily turn-over in commuter parking lots.
Will I receive confirmation that my appeal was submitted?
At this time, when an appeal is submitted online a confirmation statement is not provided. Once the submit button is clicked, the appeal has been submitted and will remain in the "adjudication pending" status until the appeal is reviewed by the Parking Committee. We are currently working with our third party software vendor (AIMS) to create an automated confirmation statement to be sent via email after an appeal is submitted.
