Training

The use of live animals in teaching, research and product testing is a privilege granted under federal, state, local and institutional regulations and policies. The UI IACUC accepts animal care and use training certification from any of the following sources.

  • UI provided animal care and use training
  • For collaborators - verification of training provided by another PHS assured or AAALACi accredited institution
Online Training
To aid the investigator in learning their responsibilities the IACUC has developed an introductory online training module that is available in the UI Blackboard training system.

Student Participation in Hands-on Live Animal Laboratories
The use of live animals as teaching tools is a privilege that can result in increased learning retention over non-animal alternatives and can provide essential skill sets.
