A native of Shelley, Idaho, Bart enrolled in the University in spring 2008, where he is pursuing a degree in resource recreation and tourism. As a Marine, he was deployed to Iraq twice. During his second tour, while he was serving as commander of a Light Armored Vehicle, his troop was injured when a bridge – which was supposed to cross a span – turned out to be missing during their nighttime return to base. Bart suffers from traumatic brain injury (TBI) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), as well as hearing loss and nerve damage.
Bart is married, has a son and is a Bob Woodruff Foundation Scholar.
