Wounded vets helped at Idaho, Michigan colleges
MOSCOW, Idaho — The demons don’t visit nearly as often as they did when Bart Gutke was sent home from the Iraq in 2006, a 21-year-old with a traumatic brain injury. He was discharged from the Marine Corps a year later.
To look at Gutke now is to see a 23-year-old with close shaved blond hair and intense blue eyes, just another kid schlepping his backpack across the University of Idaho campus.
But beneath the uniform of a typical college student is a warrior on prescribed medications who battles depression, insomnia, anxiety, chronic headaches, mild hearing and memory loss and post-traumatic stress disorder. Read More
