University of Idaho Events for June 17-23

MOSCOW, Idaho – The following is a list of University of Idaho sponsored events for the week of June 17-23. Events will take place in Moscow and Hayden, and are free and open to the public, unless otherwise noted.

Wednesday, June 19

Daytime Distractions: Sesitshaya Marimba

Take a break, get some fresh air, bring a lunch, and come enjoy live music. Free popcorn will be available. Sesitshaya Marimba group began in 2003 when Tendekai Kuture, a Zimbabwean musician, came to the University of Idaho to pursue a graduate degree in music. Tendekai brought with him a set of Kwanongoma marimbas and established "Sesitshaya," a community marimba band. Under Tendekai's leadership, they developed a strong repertory of traditional music, jazz and Caribbean songs played in a traditional style. This event is free and open to the public.

Thursday, June 20
Dissertation Defense: Babak Malek

Babak Malek, electrical engineering doctoral candidate, will defend his dissertation entitled, “Fast Branch Current Control of Mesh Connected DC Grids Using Supplemental Converter Terminal Controls.” This event is free and open to the public.

Dissertation Defense: Michael Santora
Noon
Gauss-Johnson Engineering Lab, Room 218
620 S. Line St. in Moscow
Michael Santora, electrical engineering doctoral candidate, will defend his dissertation entitled, “Tuning the Resonant Frequency of a Composite Piezoelectric Transducer with a Variable Impedance Load,” This event is free and open to the public.

Vandal Family Night at Triple Play
5-9 p.m.
Triple Play Family Fun Park
175 W. Orchard Ave. in Hayden
Join University of Idaho alumni and friends for a night of fun for all ages at the Vandal Family Night at Triple Play. Cost is $17 for the ultimate package including unlimited access to go-karts, bumper boats, indoor and outdoor mini-golf, climbing wall, laser tag, bowling and a water park. Screen on the Green: Monsters, Inc.
8:30 p.m.

1001 Paradise Creek St. in Moscow
Screen on the Green provides free movie showings on the big screen outside at dusk. Bring your family and/or friends, warm clothes, and a blanket. Freshly popped popcorn will be provided by ASUI. Monsters, Inc., follows the story of monsters who generate their city’s power by scaring children. However, they are terribly afraid themselves of being contaminated by children, so when one enters Monstropolis, top scarer Sulley finds his world disrupted. Monsters, Inc., stars John Goodman, Billy Crystal and Mary Gibbs.
