The Commanders in Concert

Come celebrate our country’s musical heritage with The Commanders, a 12-piece jazz group from the United States Air Force Band of the Golden West, in concert at the Administration Building, University Auditorium. Sponsored by the City of Moscow and the University of Idaho Music Department, the concert begins at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 16. The concert is free and open to the public.
Led by Technical Sergeant Mike Williams, The Commanders will perform a variety of jazz styles, including the sounds of the Swing Era big bands, the dance rhythms of Latino music, modern jazz, and Broadway vocals. The group features several seasoned jazz improvisers, and Senior Airman Pamela MacKenzie, an enchanting vocalist, is featured on songs sure to please every taste in a celebration of America’s musical heritage in song! The United States Air Force Band of the Golden West is stationed at Travis Air Force Base, California. As the only remaining active duty Air Force band west of the Rockies, its geographic area of responsibility includes Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Idaho and California. The Band of the Golden West has performed for gubernatorial inaugurations and presidential visits, with guest artists such as Toni Tennille, Marvin Stamm, Bob Hope, and the Boston Brass. They have performed at games of the Oakland Athletics, San Francisco Giants, Oakland Raiders, and the San Francisco 49ers. The band has been seen and heard by millions in performances throughout its touring region and on radio and television.
