Susan Bender Named New IPO Executive Director for International Engagement and Programs

Susan Bender started her role as the new executive director for International Engagement and Programs at the University of Idaho this past Monday. She comes to Idaho from the University of Nevada, Reno where she was the director in the Office of International Students and Scholars since 1996, and their interim director the previous year. Prior to Nevada, she worked at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, the University of Portland in Oregon and Colorado State University.
Bender holds a Ph.D. in Political Science/Environmental Policy from University of Nevada, Reno, an MA in Education/College Administration and a B.S. in Business, both from Colorado State University, Fort Collins. She is a member of AIEA: Association of International Education Administrators, and NAFSA: Association for International Educators, where she has held many leadership positions. Her husband, Scott Slovic, is a new professor of literature and the environment in the department of English. Bender’s major interests include biking, hiking, traveling and walking her long-haired German Shepherd, Hanna.
