In Memoriam: James "Jim" VanLeuven

James Kenneth “Jim” VanLeuven, who taught journalism and public relations at the University of Idaho from 1970 to 1981, died March 26, 2013, while on vacation with his family in Orlando, Fla. He was 72.
When VanLeuven arrived at the University of Idaho, he became half of a two-member department of journalism. He helped develop the multi-disciplinary school of communication, which formed in 1973. VanLeuven later taught at Washington State University, Colorado State University and the University of Oregon. He moved to Seattle in 2011.
Survivors include Susan VanLeuven, his wife of nearly 50 years. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 609 8th Ave., Seattle, Wash.
