The Mainstay 2012

The Mainstay is a student written and produced newsletter. It dates to 1980 when it was first published for alumni to keep in touch and follow the career highlights of fellow graduates. At that time there were several different publications to highlight the events of the student body: Vandal Middie, The Leader, The Lookout, The Idaho Navy Log, and The Seafarer. In 1990 the modern Mainstay was published as a semi-annual newsletter that would combine the attributes of all the previous publications. This evolved into the annual publication of The Mainstay that contains all of the key events for a given University of Idaho NROTC school year to include the Navy Birthday Ball, Northwest Navy, and of course the newest commissionees. While it has gone by many names and evolutions The Mainstay is just that, a tradition that helps past alumni remember the good times and allows further leadership and investment in the Unit by current students.
