Arthur Taylor - Native American Tribal Liaison

From 2002 to 2007, Arthur Taylor served as the assistant director of multicultural student programs and services at the University of Notre Dame. In that capacity, he served in leadership and development roles, including the creation and management of numerous heritage and educational activities, and work with the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians Department of Education to implement tutoring sessions for their tribal students.

Prior to his work at Notre Dame, he served for six years on the Nez Perce Tribal Executive Committee as secretary and assistant secretary-treasurer. During that time, he also served as the tribal council’s senior citizen’s liaison, education liaison, chair of the natural resources subcommittee, intergovernmental affairs subcommittee, and land enterprise subcommittee. He developed and coordinated the Nez Perce Tribal Youth Council and represented the tribe in all areas of tribal sovereignty both national and international treaty rights.

Arthur earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in foreign languages and literature from Washington State University and a Master of Arts degree in organizational leadership from Gonzaga University. Currently, he is completing his second master’s degree in cultural and educational policy studies from Loyola University Chicago’s School of Education.

Today, Arthur is employed by the University of Idaho as the Native American Tribal Liaison. His work with the Provost entails developing culturally sensitive and mutually beneficial protocols for relationship building, communication and academic projects between the University of Idaho and the Native American tribes. He represents the University of Idaho in numerous tribal communities throughout the Pacific Northwest and is working to get university staff, faculty, students, and administrators out to Indian Country.
