HOIST
Helping Orient Indian Students and Teachers
HOIST is a 6-week, summer, college preparatory program at the University of Idaho for Native American high school students that have demonstrated potential in the science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) fields.
The students become acquainted with University resources and facilities, giving the improved confidence in achieving their higher educational goals.
Goals
- Provide STEM education to native american students
- Recruit and retain Native American undergraduate students in STEM majors
- Provide education to current and future teachers to better instruct Native American students in STEM fields
