The Department of Mathematics at the University
of Idaho invites applications for an academic year
tenure-track faculty position in Mathematics Education
at the Assistant or Associate Professor level.
Preference will be given to candidates with expertise
in outreach activities with K-12 mathematics teachers
and school districts, and expertise in the development,
delivery and assessment of web-assisted and web-based
mathematics courses. Candidates at the Associate
Professor level are expected to demonstrate experience
in grant writing and management of mathematics education
professional development projects and to be willing to
direct their efforts toward the Math Education needs
of Idaho.

CONTEXT:
The University of Idaho is a leader in Idaho mathematics
education research, teaching, and service. In particular,
the mathematics
department has used recently developed
technologies to create innovative web-based courses,
establishing learning communities and opportunities
for mathematical exploration among geographically
distant and/or isolated students. Competitive
candidates will demonstrate an interest in:
- Contributing to current and future research
activities that support the development of these
courses
- Supporting ongoing and future K-12 teacher
enhancement activities and grant-supported projects
- Playing a leadership role in mathematics
education at the university and state levels
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Conducting an active research program, including
grant writing and management
- Teaching undergraduate and graduate mathematics
and mathematics education courses, both on campus
development programs and servic\
es for K-12 mathematics
teachers and school districts
- Engaging in departmental and university service
activities, including advising pre-service
teachers
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Ph.D. in Mathematics Education (or a Ph.D.
in Mathematics with an emphasis in Mathematics
Education) OR an Ed.D. in Mathematics Education
(or an Ed.D. in Curriculum & Instruction with an
emphasis in Mathematics Education) earned or
expected by June 15, 2008
- Evidence of potential for excellence in
mathematics education research
- Interest in distance learning and K-12
professional development
- Evidence of potential for excellence in
teaching
- Mathematics preparation equivalent to a
Master's degree in Mathematics
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Successful teaching experience at the K-12
level and university levels
- Successful grant writing & management experience
- Expertise with the uses of technologies in
teaching and/or web-based communication
technologies
- Experience teaching via distance learning
- Experience conducting K-12 professional
development programs and/or services
