Department of Mathematics
University of Idaho - Moscow, Idaho

Jim Calvert
Professor of Mathematics

My primary research area is in boundary value problems for ordinary differential equations, and my secondary interest is in formal language theory as applied to computer science. I am the author of textbooks in linear programming and finite mathematics, the CALIPSO series of software, and numerous research articles. I received the Ph.D. from the University of California in 1966 and have taught at the University of Idaho since 1967. I served as chair of the department from 1982-1990. I assumed the chair again in July 1998 and will probably continue at that job until I retire in July 2001.

My course home page describes video courses I teach through Engineering Video Outreach and how you can obtain shareware versions of CALIPSO software.
