Living
Expenses
For
the 2000-2001 Year
The
payroll contract dates are August 20, 2000 ê May 19, 2001. Paychecks
are issued every two weeks starting with the first check on September
15, 2000 provided you have filed all of the required information with
Human Resource Services on time. International students will receive
assistance in obtaining the social security number needed for payroll
purposes during the week of orientation given by the International Programs
Office.
Costs
as Estimated by the Financial Aid Office
- Registration
fee of $1,508 per semester; that is, $3,016 per year. You can arrange
to have a portion of the fee deducted from your bi-weekly paycheck.
The
following web sites and links provide information about housing options
and costs:
- The
cost of books and supplies is estimated at $1,024 per year. However,
that estimate is for undergraduate students who take about twice as
many classes as graduate students.
- Personal
expenses are estimated at $1,888 per year.
- Health
insurance costs about $400 per year and is required for international
students.
In addition
to the stipend, a TA receives a nonresident tuition waiver of $6,000.
For international students, that gives $18,200 as the total proof of
annual income for the purpose of obtaining a student visa. That amount
is sufficient proof of income for a student visa.
TA stipends
start at $12,200 for beginning TA's with a bachelor's degree. You can
expect a modest increase if you have or graduate to an M.S. degree.
