What is the time commitment for being a participant in the Leadership Academy?
There are 4-5 hours per month of face-to-face meetings that all participants should plan to attend, with no more than three hours of outside reading. Additionally, there are two retreats (fall and winter), as well as optional participation in the President’s Leadership Breakfasts.
Who facilitates the Leadership Academy?
The Leadership Academy is coordinated by Jeanne (Christiansen) Stevenson, Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and co-coordinated by committee members: Lynn Baird, Dean of Library Services, and Elissa Keim, Director of Professional Development and Learning.
Individual sessions are presented by a wide variety of leaders from across campus including leadership academy steering committee members, administrators and vice presidents, faculty members and deans.
Who is eligible to participate? How many members are in each cohort? How are participants selected?
All faculty and staff are welcome to apply for the 2013-2014 cohort. The nomination/application period generally occurs in late spring semester. Applications are reviewed by a selection committee and approximately 8-12 individuals are selected to participate each year. The selection committee looks for representation from Moscow, UI Campus Centers and Extension offices, length of University service (a minimum of 3 years is recommended) and a mixture of faculty and staff members from various departments and colleges across the institution. In addition, women and members of underrepresented groups are particularly encouraged to apply.
