University of Idaho Leadership Academy

The University of Idaho Leadership Academy is a program open to university faculty and staff throughout the state. The program's mission is to provide ongoing opportunities that integrate the development of knowledge and skills in leadership with a university-based project, building our institutional leadership capacity for today and for the future.

The Leadership Academy, sponsored by the Office of the Provost and coordinated by the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, focuses on national, institutional, and personal leadership knowledge and development. Over the course of the year, participants will complete an intensive program of study and exploration, which will include sessions on leadership, higher education, legal and ethical issues, internal and external relations, fiscal stewardship, personnel development, and other topics pertinent to leaders.

During their involvement in the Leadership Academy, participants meet with the University of Idaho president, provost, and vice presidents, and are involved in a university-level project; over the course of the year, internship, job shadowing, and mentoring opportunities can be accessed as well. Participants will have the opportunity to complete a self-assessment regarding their leadership style and specific areas of strength. Typically, the investment of time for this program is four to five hours per month of in-person participation with another two to three hours of out-of-class reading and preparation.

Technology, such as compressed video and Blackboard will be used to ensure that employees outside of the Moscow area are able to be actively involved. All university faculty and staff are eligible to participate in the leadership academy; members of underrepresented groups and women are particularly encouraged to apply. Interested staff and faculty may either submit an application or be nominated by another university faculty member, staff member, or administrator.
Applications and nominations are now open.

The application deadline is August 19, 2011

The nomination deadline is August 12, 2011.
