Commencement

Tickets are not required and seating is first-come, first served.
Law degree candidates will gather at 2:15pm at the Law School to line up and take a class picture in full regalia. Candidates and faculty will proceed from there to the Kibbie Dome.
Celebration Reception
Immediately following the ceremony the College of Law will be hosting a Celebration Reception for law graduates, their guests, faculty, and staff. Light refreshments and photo opportunities will be available.
Commencement Speaker
Honorable Candy W. Dale
Judge Dale graduated from the College of Idaho with honors in 1979 and received her Juris Doctor from the University of Idaho College of Law in 1982. While here she served as Editor in Chief of the Idaho Law Review. From 1982 to 1988, Judge Dale was an associate and shareholder at the Boise law firm of Moffatt Thomas Barret & Blanton. She was then a commercial and business lawyer in the Boise law firm of Hall, Farley, Oberrecht & Blanton where she practiced law since 1988 and served as President of the firm before being appointed to the District Court in November 2007. Judge Dale has been recognized for her commitment to law and justice, including pro bono service and an accomplished record on the federal judiciary. The College of Law also benefits from her service as a mentor in the 1L professionalism program and as a member emerita of the Law Advisory Council.
Awards & Achievements
Faculty Award of Legal Merit
Dennis E. Wheeler
Dennis ’66,’67 has held many roles at the University of Idaho, including Chair of the University’s College of Law Advisory Council. He and his wife, Jacqueline, are Cabinet Members on the Inspiring Futures: Invest in the University of Idaho capital campaign. He is a 2012 Silver and Gold Award recipient, which honors a distinguished record of achievement and service.
Now retired from the Coeur d’Alene Mines Corp. -- where he was Chairman of the Board, President, and Chief Executive Officer – he and his former employer have generously supported the College of Business and Economics Excellence Fund, the Coeur d’Alene Mines Faculty Fellowship, renovations to Kibbie Dome, and a recruiting scholarship in the College of Law.
Also an attorney, Dennis has excelled in his professional practice. This past summer he was a visiting Professor of Strategic Management-Gonzaga University School of Business-Florence, Italy.
Faculty Award of Legal Achievement
Jennifer Meling-Aiko Jensen
Jennifer Meling-Aiko Jensen is the recipient of the Faculty Award of Legal Achievement. Presented to the graduating law student with the highest cumulative grade point average, this award honors outstanding dedication and success in the pursuit of academic excellence during legal study at the College of Law.
University of Idaho Alumni Hall of Fame
John Rosholt
John Rosholt attended the University of Idaho where he obtained his B.A. in 1959 and his L.L.B in 1964. He was admitted to practice law in Idaho in 1964. He practices law in the Magic Valley and is a founding partner of the Twin Falls firm Barker Rosholt & Simpson, LLP. The firm specializes in Water Law, Construction, Mining, Irrigation and Land Use Practices.
John is respected around the west for his leadership on water rights law. He has served as corporate counsel for the Twin Falls Canal Company, North Side Canal Company and American Falls Reservoir District for over 40 years. He was involved in legislative efforts to replace the United States Bureau of Reclamation dams at American Falls and Jackson Lake. John served as President and Director of the National Water Resources Association. He represented many clients in water-related matters involving the Snake River Basin Adjudication and other federal and state legislative matters.
University of Idaho Honorary Degree Recipient
Harry L. Bettis
Harry is a rancher and partner in Black Canyon Partners LLC. He owns thousands of acres and has 1500 plus head of cattle. He has been a partner in an oil distribution business and helped construct three dams for irrigation purposes. He is the president of the Laura Moore Cunningham Foundation, Inc. which provides support to many Idaho nonprofit organizations and scholarships for student throughout Idaho. He is a member of the Peregrine Fund National Center. Harry received his undergraduate degree from Stanford University and is a friend and major donor to the University of Idaho.
