“I didn’t know what to expect,” he says. “I was really hesitant at first.”
But his apprehensions faded rapidly once he arrived.
“Moscow grew on me quickly,” says Ben, who admits that he experienced a bit of culture shock shortly after moving to Moscow when, on his first trip to the Palouse Mall, another shopper unexpectedly held the door for him. “Everyone is so polite!”
Now in his third year, Ben remains certain in his decision.
“I’ve really enjoyed my experience here,” Ben says. “It seems to be much friendlier than some of the other larger law schools out there. The class sizes are small, the professors are always willing to engage in dialogue, and the students really encourage each other to succeed.”
Ben, whose father is an attorney, always had a hunch he was destined to become a lawyer. He says he has a knack for persuasion, and he hopes this skill will allow him to one day help keep criminals off the streets of his Seattle-suburb hometown.
“I plan to return to Snohomish County, where my friends and extended family live, to practice as a criminal prosecutor,” he says. “I think it will be very rewarding to know that my work is helping protect the people I know and love from violence.”
