Suggested Laptop Specifications

The University of Idaho College of Law does not require students to purchase laptops. However, it is strongly recommended that you have a laptop computer.

The College of Law supports Windows and Mac OSX computers. Chromebooks, iPads and other similar devices are not recommended as a sole computing device.

Requirements for systems and software at the College of Law

The College of Law uses test taking software called SofTest for many of the exams, midterms, finals and quizzes you will take. When purchasing a laptop, it is important that you purchase a computer that meets the minimum requirements to run the test taking software.

Operating System

32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10

Only genuine U.S.-English, French, Portuguese, Swedish and British versions of Windows Operating Systems are supported.

CPU Processor

1.86Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo or greater

RAM

2GB is the minimum required amount of RAM

Hard Drive

SofTest requires a minimum of 1GB of available space

Screen Resolution

Screen Resolution must be 1024x768 or higher

An Internet connection is required for SofTest download, registration, exam download and exam upload.

Administrator level account permissions MUST be active on your account before launching an exam.
