Academic Support

The Academic Support Office helps you maximize your law school success through academic counseling and skills instruction, academic advising, and bar preparation.

Academic Support Services:

Academic Advising: We coordinate the college's academic advising program. All students are welcome to come to Academic Support for help in planning their academic careers. Academic Support also prepares the Law Student Handbook.

Academic Counseling: The director works individually and in small groups with law students wishing to achieve their personal best in law school. Academic counseling is available to all students, whatever their class rank. Many top students have bettered their already-good performance by learning time-effective study skills.

Academic Skills Workshops: Workshops on key skills for academic success are given by the director, College of Law professors, and other experts. Workshops are open to all students.

Bar Admission: Academic Support presents bar admissions and bar exam workshops, maintains updated information on the bar admissions process for all 50 states, and sponsors presentations on bar admissions by bar examiners and graders.

Early Welcome Program: Early Welcome is an intensive four-day preorientation program designed to foster active, collaborative learning and a skills-based approach to law studies. The program is limited to 25 members of the entering 1L class. Early Welcome participants reflect the broad diversity of entering students, with grades and LSAT scores that mirror those of the class as a whole.

LL.M. and S.J.D. Information: The Advanced Law Degree Programs Web page lists all the advanced law degree (LL.M. and S.J.D.) programs offered in the U.S. and Canada by law school.

Resource Library: The Academic Support Office contains a resource library of over 400 reference books and study aids covering all first-year subjects and most upper-division subjects. All students are welcome to use the resource library. Also see Academic Support's Recommended Reading List.

Scholarship Information: The University of Idaho College of Law has the nation's most comprehensive listing of outside scholarships available to law students at the University of Idaho and other ABA-accredited law schools.

Law Study Abroad Information:  Annually updated is a comprehensive listing of all ABA-accredited summer programs for law study abroad. Programs are listed both by country and by law school.

Support Services: Academic Support offers confidential support and referrals for law students experiencing nonacademic issues (including, but not limited to, family issues, financial need, health issues, and stress) that may interfere with their well-being or academic success.

Legal Writing Competitions: Academic Support maintains a comprehensive list of current and annual legal writing competitions.
