Hamp's Notes

Fall 2008
Hello Jazz Family and Friends,

Can you believe how time flies? I am so pleased to announce the exciting University of Idaho 2009 Lionel Hampton International Jazz Festival concert lineup! Here at the Festival, we all are working hard to make sure 2009 is another great year of jazz – and, of course, has a few surprises to keep you on your toes.

This year, we are going to explore the international impact of Jazz. From Jose Rizo’s "Jazz on the Latin Side All Stars" to Festival favorite Eldar Djangirov, the 2009 Festival is going global to bring you the most exciting, infectious and dazzling jazz the world has to offer. Whether it’s experiencing Kenny Barron’s "Canta Brazil," swinging to Monty Alexander’s "Jazz and Roots" or being mesmerized by the phenomenal Bobby McFerrin, the 2009 Festival promises to inspire.

Your fan,

John Clayton signature

P.S. Don’t forget these great additions:

  • Our student soloists will make Hamp’s Club the place to be starting at 7:00 each night! Don’t miss great student tunes before our professional concerts.
  • Your dance shoes are a must on Wednesday and Saturday!
  • Explore it all on the Festival’s redesigned Web site!

News from the Festival office

Although we still are working through a few things, including putting up new pages, the redesigned Festival Web site is up and running. Be sure to check back for additions to the lineup, new videos and educational materials!

We are pleased to welcome the Festival’s new Volunteer Programs Coordinator Molly McCormick. Molly has been involved with the Festival for the past five years. Molly is a graduate of the University of Idaho, with a bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences and was recently married. For the past several years, Molly has worked at the Festival office, first as work study and then for the past two years as a Drive Team Coordinator. Come by and welcome Molly to the Festival team!
