Data Networking
Description
The data network service provides wired Local Area Network (LAN) access to the network resources of the University of Idaho as well as the Internet, Internet2 (I2) and National Lambda Rail (NLR). The data network service provides Wide Area Network (WAN) services to many University of Idaho campuses across the state.
 Eligibility
Data Networking services are available to students, faculty, staff, departments, retirees, contractors and vendors.
Cost There are no usage, access, or maintenance charges for the data network service.
There is a charge for new equipment and Wide Area Network (WAN) services.
The estimated costs for standard network equipment are:
24-port 100Mbps Switch - $450+
48-port 100Mbps Switch - $780+
24-port 1Gbps Switch - $1600+
48-port 1Gbps Switch - $2700+
The standard WAN service is either a point-to-point T1 or a virtual connection starting at 10Mbps through Idaho Regional Optical Network (IRON). Cost for, and availability of, WAN services vary by city.

Network Naming and Addressing

Description
The Network Naming and Addressing service provides Domain Name System (DNS) naming for network devices in the uidaho.edu domain, DNS hosting for vanity domains outside uidaho.edu, and IP address management.
 Eligibility
Network naming and addressing is provided to students, faculty, staff, departments, retirees, parents, prospective students, visitors, contractors, alumni, affiliates and vendors at the University of Idaho.
Cost There is no fee for this service
Self Service Information For wireless users, DNS names and IP address assignment are handled automatically for authenticated users.

Systems Administrators may administer uidaho.edu DNS names, aliases, and IP address assignments using the Network Management System (NMS)

Description
The Virtual Private Network (VPN) service provides a method for gaining remote access to the University of Idaho network resources over the Internet when traveling or at home. There is a VandalVPN service and a SysAdVPN service. The SysAdVPN service is required when the remote user must have a fixed IP address assignment.
 Eligibility
VPN is available to students, faculty, staff, departments, retirees, contractors and vendors at the University of Idaho.
Cost There is no fee for this service.
Self Service Information The Virtual Private Network client software can be downloaded from the UI support download page and you can follow ITS tutorials on instructions for installing, configuring and using the VPN client.

Description
The Wireless LAN service provides network access to networked resources of the University of Idaho as well as the Internet, Internet2 (I2), and National Lamda Rail (NLR). The wireless service is based on the 802.11a, 802.11g and 802.11n. Faculty, Staff, and Students are encouraged to use AirVandalGold. Guests are invited to use AirVandalGuest.
 Eligibility

Cost There are no usage, access, or maintenance fees for the Wireless LAN service, but there is a charge for new equipment and installation.
The standard network equipment cost is $750+/Wireless Access Point.
The installation costs vary by location.
There is no charge for wireless LAN Design and Cost Estimates.

Description
ITS provides time.uidaho.edu, a campus-located service which should be used to synchronize the time of computers and digital equipment to the university’s reference time source. That time source is synchronized to the global NTP network.

ITS provides time syncronization to students, faculty, staff and departments at the University of Idaho.

Physical Server Co-Location

Description

Customer physical servers are housed in a physically secured and monitored data center with continuously-monitored redundant power and environmental controls. The customer is responsible for all OS and application software, installation, maintenance, and security. However, data backup service is available.

Interaction with physical equipment is provided by customers through remote access cards that should be installed in the server. These generally meet all customer access needs. Systems Team provides “remote hands” for straightforward installation of replacement or upgraded hardware such as RAM or hot-swappable components. Physical access outside of this is coordinated through Systems Team, generally for a fee. All service is provided at the Moscow campus.

ITS provides physical server co-location services to faculty, staff and departments at the University of Idaho.

Description
ITS/MIS provides a Subversion-based source code repository designed for developers to manage their applications. This service is available to all UI developers for storing University-owned source code. The service is accessed through a browser through an encrypted SSL connection to the repository server.

Dedicated source code repositories are created on the repository server on request and access is managed at the repository level. One or more repositories can be requested. Developers can select from a number of SVN-supporting client tools depending on the needs of the development environment being used.
 Eligibility
ITS provides source doe repository services for faculty, staff and departments at the University of Idaho.
Cost There is no cost associated with this service.

Description
ITS provides database hosting for SQL server-based applications. This service provides regular infrastructure patching, backup and recovery options, performance tuning and instance monitoring. Pre-production instances are also available as part of this service. 

As databases are hosted on a shared SQL server instance, no elevated privilege beyond the requested database will be permitted.
