Self-Help: Mounting U and S drives in Windows

This tutorial applies to the following operating system(s):

 Windows

Overview:

  • After completion, you will be able to remotely connect to your U and S drives.

This tutorial will walk you through explaining what U and S drives are and mounting them on a Windows-based system. The steps to map your drives are the same for both on campus and off campus machines with one exception – machines off campus must be connected to VPN before mounting and using the drives.

Mounting drives on Windows:

One of the best things about the networked (U and S) drives is they can be mapped (or mounted) to any computer both on and off the U of I network. Networked drives have the following file paths:

  • Shared space: \\files.uidaho.edu\shared\
  • User directory: \\users.uidaho.edu\users\

Step 1

To mount the User and Shared drive, be sure your machine is connected to the VPN if off campus, and  download the quickConnect tool directly.

Once the tool is downloaded, run it, entering your myUIdaho username and password when prompted, to mount the drives automatically.

Once the drives are mounted you can access your data by opening your Windows Explorer and finding them under the drives tab.
