This tutorial applies to the following operating system(s):

(Click for device-specific instructions)

 Android         Apple iOS

Overview:

AirVandalGold is the standard wireless network for the University of Idaho. This tutorial will guide you through the steps necessary to register your iOS or Android mobile device and connect to our network.

Android Wifi Setup

Step 1

Connecting your Android mobile device (phone or tablet) is very similar to connecting a laptop or iOS device. Please note that because of the many different flavors of Android, your home screen, icons and menu items may be slightly different, but the steps remain the same across all versions of Android. Before you begin, you will need to know your NetID username and password.

Open up the settings of your phone to jump into the settings menu.

Step 2

Touch the Wifi networks option to go into the Wireless network menu. Depending on your version of Android, you may need to go through several screens and touch wi-fi settings to get to the list of wireless networks.

Touch the AirVandalGold network to bring up the Wireless setup window.

Step 3

On this screen, make sure your EAP method is set to PEAP and your Phase 2 Authentication is set to MSCHAPV2. Enter your NetID username in the identity field and your password in the password field. Leave the Anonymous identity blank.

Your android device will be registered to your account behind the scene. Give the device a few moments and it should automatically connect to the AirVandalGold network.

iOS Wifi Setup

Step 1

Students, staff and faculty can easily connect their mobile iOS devices such as iPhones, iPads and iTouches to the University of Idaho’s wireless network, AirVandalGold. The following tutorial will walk you through the steps required to get your device up and running.

On your iOS device, click on the Settings tab.

Step 2

In the Settings menu, click Wi-Fi and then connect to AirVandalGold.

Step 3

You will be asked to enter your NetID username and password. Enter both and you will be automatically connected to AirVandalGold. Your device will be registered in the background.

Step 4

You will be asked to accept a security certificate – this is normal. The University of Idaho uses a secure internet connection method which require a global signed certificate to be accepted.

Once you accept the certificate, it will be processed and you will be connect to AirVandalGold and have full access to the internet.
