Self-Help: Adding a Wireless Networked Printer in OSX

Adding a Wireless Networked Printer in OSX

This tutorial applies to the following operating system(s):

Open network printers can be wirelessly networked to your Apple laptop. This tutorial will walk you through the process to set up a wireless connection on your Apple laptop.

Step 1 is the native email client application installed with every version of Apple OS X and is capable of running in full exchange mode. This tutorial will walk you through the setup of an Exchange

Open the from your taskbar and navigate to file->add account from the menu bar up top.

Step 1

Click on the Apple icon and then click System Preferences…

Adding a wirelessly networked printer to your Mac OS X machine is slightly more difficult than in Windows because it must be added “manually” without a list of available printers. This means you must know the name of the printer you wish to add.

Step 2

Select the Print & Fax Icon.

Step 3

Select the add button to add a new network printer.

Step 4

The window to add a printer will appear. You will need to add an advanced option to the toolbar. To do this hold down the ctrl key and click on the grey area at the top of the window. In the drop down menu select Customize Toolbar.

Step 5

Click and drag the Advanced icon to the toolbar, then select the ‘Done’ button to continue.

Step 6

Click on the Advanced icon in the toolbar. When the options are available the type of connection you will need to setup is a windows connection.

Step 7

In the URL field you will need to enter the following path: smb:// of printer.

Step 8

Click on the ‘Please select a driver or printer model’ and find the printer model/driver from the list.

Step 9

When all of this setup correctly please click on the add button to install the printer.
