Each course offered through the Independent Study in Idaho program is sponsored by one of the cooperating member institutions (University of Idaho, Boise State University, Idaho State University, or Lewis-Clark State College). Students may register for ISI courses without applying for admission to any of the cooperating schools; admission to any of these institutions is not automatically granted upon registering for an ISI course.

University of Idaho students working toward a degree must have written approval from their academic dean to register for an ISI course, and to ensure that ISI college credits are applicable toward their degree. It is recommended that students at other institutions obtain signature confirmation that ISI credits will be accepted. See Forms for a College Course Approval Form.

How to Register


Steps to Register

  1. You may register for ISI courses at any time. Select a course from Courses, College.
  2. Obtain written verification from your school that ISI credits will be accepted. Students may mail or fax the College Course Approval Form or scan and e-mail the approval form to indepst@uidaho.edu.
  3. See Course Fees for registration fees.
  4. Select a registration and payment option listed below.
  5. Order textbooks, study guides, and supplemental materials online from the UI Bookstore. You must be registered in order to purchase ISI study guides.

Registration Options

  • Online: Access the secure ISI Online Forms System to register and pay by credit card. Students may safely enter credit card information when they register on ISI's secure online registration system. Please verify registration information before submitting the form.
  • Phone: Students registering by telephone must have their credit card information available at the time of registration.

  • Mail: Print the registration form available at Forms, and mail the completed form with payment to:

  • Fax: If registering by fax, call the ISI office to provide your Social Security number, credit card information, and to confirm receipt of the registration form.
  • Walk-in: Walk-in students may pay by cash. For your security, please do not send cash by mail.

Payment Options
Payment is required at the time of registration and is accepted by check, money order, VISA, MasterCard, or Discover. Most tuition vouchers from U.S. military and corporate institutions are accepted.
