Orientation Schedule

The International Programs Office (IPO) welcomes you to the University of Idaho!

Fall 2013 International Student Orientation Schedule
August 20-23 

Please be at all scheduled events on time. Use free time to meet with advisors, take placement tests, register for classes, and pay fees.
  • Sunday, August 18, 2013

    7:00 pm to 10:00 pm 
    EARLY Move-in to campus housing:  
    Authorized EARLY move-ins ONLY. You will be notified if you can move in to your campus housing on this day. Otherwise, you will need to remain in the hotel until the next move-in time.  

    If you are moving into the into the residence halls and are staying in a hotel, please meet in the lobby at either 11:00 am or 7:00 pm for a driver to take you to campus housing to move-in to your room. You are responsible for your own luggage. Check with your hotel on check–out times as you will need to pay for the day if you check in at 7:00 pm on campus. 

    NOTE: You must have your Vandal Card to get into your room.

    ALL DAY  There are no regular orientation requirements on this day. If you are a Freshman (first year undergraduate) you should take the COMPASS English and Math placement tests, meet with your academic advisor (schedule an appointment before you show up), register for classesand get to know Moscow.  UI Campus  Helpful

    Get a tour of our beautiful campus. Not only will you learn building locations for classes and resources, you will also learn some interesting facts and history about the U of I.

    11:00 am  Exchange Students Pre-Orientation Meeting:  
    Meet your exchange program advisors and get set up for the semester with registration, fees, stipends, etc. This is only for exchange students working with Colton Oliphant, Holly Greenfield, Jean Wenner or Jill Kellogg-Serna*. Meet at the International Programs Office (IPO)

    Housing Tour:  
    Living on Campus or undecided? Learn about UI Residence Halls and take a housing tour so you know of your choices for living on campus. Remember, all new Freshmen must live in the residence halls for the first year.

    Get a tour of our beautiful campus. Not only will you learn building locations for classes and resources, you will also learn some interesting facts and history about UI.

    One of Housing Tour Guides will take you on an hour-long tour of 3 of our available residence hall options for students and the resident dining facility. Guides will explain the benefits of living in housing, student success initiatives, costs, dining plans and more.

    1:00 pm  Social Security Session (Must attend if you wish to get a job or license): 
    • If you have a job offer (assistantship or other on campus work), you can apply for a Social Security Number (SSN). You must bring a job offer letter (required for SSN) and all of your entry documents (Passport, Visa, I-94 (print from www.cbp.gov/i94), and I-20 or DS-2019).
    • If you do not have a job offer and wish to get a driver’s license or cell phone, then you will need to apply for a Letter of Denial from Social Security.  You must bring all of your entry documents (Passport, Visa, I-94 (Print from www.cbp.gov/i94), and I-20 or DS-2019).

    If you have a job offer (assistantship or other on-campus work that is not with Dining Services), you can fill out your Employment paperwork today. Learn about the next steps in your Employment Authorization and speak with Human Resources representatives if you have any questions.

    Diversity, Equity, and Community Barbeque:
    Stop by and get acquainted with the Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA), Native American Student Center (NASC), College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP), LGBTQA Office, Women’s Center, multicultural student leaders, UI staff and faculty. The BBQ is free and open to all. Students will have the opportunity to win great prizes.
