Costa Rican Professor to Join UI Modern Languages and Cultures Faculty this Spring
Damaris Castro Garcia, a visiting professor from Costa Rica, will be joining the Modern Languages and Cultures (MLC) Dept. as a part of a University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC) faculty exchange program. Damaris will teach advanced Spanish language courses and introduce UI students to Costa Rican culture and social traditions.
Damaris received her Bachelor degree in English Teaching from the Universidad Nacional of Costa Rica, a MA in Linguistics from the University of Iowa, and a License in Applied Linguistics with Emphasis in English from the Universidad Nacional of Costa Rica. She has published many articles on language learning and has participated in numerous pedagogy and language acquisition workshops.
She will be joining three other USAC teachers who are currently here from Spain’s Basque Country: Azucena Dominguez who is teaching Intermediate Spanish; Egoitz Franganillo who is teaching Elementary Spanish and Advanced Spanish Composition; and Goizane Iturbe who is teaching Intermediate Spanish and Advanced Spanish Composition.
