My name is Juan L. Corona and I am a senior at the University of Idaho. I am expected to graduate this spring with a B.S in Broadcasting Digital Media. I came to the UI pursing my lifelong dream of becoming the first person in my family to graduate with a college degree. I came to further my education as a way to open doors for my brothers to follow.
In the last three years I believe my experience has transformed me into the person that I am today; which is a self-motivated, goal driven, student activist who believes in leading by example. While attending the UI, I have devoted my time and energy to be part of organizations that I believe create change and represent my values and beliefs. I have been a part of the Student Alumni Relations Board, a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity, Homecoming Committee, Brotherhood Empowerment Against Rape, Organizacion de Estudiantes Latinos Americanos, Interfraternity Council and the Associated Students University of Idaho. I have also had the opportunity to embark in two of the most rewarding trips of my life.
Last spring I was selected to go on an Alternative Service Break to Gary, Indiana with 10 other students and a faculty member and this spring I had the opportunity to lead a group of students to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. These trips have reinforced my commitment to service and opened my eyes to many socio- economic issues that we are shielded from in a university environment. My mother has always tough me to lead a helping hand to those in need. I take that to heart because my family has been impacted by the help of others.
