For 40 years, the Ernest W. Hartung Theater has been a place for the campus and the community to come together and enjoy the performing arts. However, it has also served as a vibrant learning environment. It is a laboratory where students develop the craft of acting, designing, stage managing, directing and playwriting. A place where their peers from other disciplines, such as music and dance, come to collaborate as artists, and a place where devoted professional faculty members share their knowledge and experience.
Designed by ALSC Architects of Spokane/Coeur d’Alene, the Hartung Theater has been re-envisioned to meet the needs and take advantage of the insights and innovations of the 21st Century.
The renovation is planned in three phases.
- Phase 1 | $60,000 (Completed) - Theater's proscenium, stage deck and rigging system has been upgraded.
- Phase 2 | $750,000 (Currently Raising Funds) - Audience seating replacement & reconfigurement, sound & hearing impaired wireless installation, and replacement of old drapes.
- Phase 3 | $1,700,000 - Lobby and outdoor entrance redesign.
In this effort, the College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences has assembled a devoted group of people who have agreed to act as the Hartung Theater Renovation Board.
