What we do for building safety

Inspections are used to detect and eliminate any actual or potential hazards that could lead to accidents or incidents. The University of Idaho has the responsibility to provide a healthy and safe workplace. EHS coordinates the Division of Building Safety Inspections, which include an annual physical walk-through and an overall general preventive maintenance review. Safety inspections are intended to raise awareness of safety; detect unsafe conditions, deficiencies, and practices; and to make recommendations for corrective or appropriate remedial action(s).

What you can do to help

If you receive notification that your building will be inspected just follow the instructions and links that are in the notification. This will help you to do a preliminary walk-through of the areas for which you are responsible. If you haven’t been notified but are concerned about your building's safety, you can review the links on this page to evaluate areas that are your responsibility. Keep in mind there are many building users and many common areas that ALL building users should inspect to more easily achieve compliance with Idaho General Health and Safety Guidelines as well as other applicable codes.
