ITS offers Sophos Antivirus for University-owned machines to help protect them from viruses and malware. This tutorial will walk you through installing the Sophos antivirus client on a UI owned Macintosh machine.
Before downloading the software, you will need to agree to the University of Idaho’s antivirus agreement. To do this, log in to the Account Management site using your NetID username and password.
Once logged in, click University Software in the menu on the left, and then click the UI Antivirus link. This will bring up the anti virus agreement — click the I agree button to gain access to download Sophos.
To begin installation of the Sophos Antivirus Client on your Mac, verify that you meet the system requirements (Mac OS X 10.5+), and have downloaded the proper installation package (.dmg file) from the software page. A link to the software page can be found on the Account Management site on the UI Anti-Virus agreement page.
Double-click the file in your downloads folder. This should open the installer.
If a folder appears on your desktop instead of running an installation process, double-click to open it, and then double-click the icon to open the installer.
Next, the installation wizard will provide you with important information pertinent to installation. Please read the information carefully and continue.
You may be prompted to enter your computer administration password to begin the installation process; key in your password and select “OK” to continue.
The installation should begin, marked by a blue progress bar. Once complete, a success message will appear and you can close then delete the installer.
Sophos will now be installed on your computer and will being passively scanning your machine.
