Setting up Email in Android

This tutorial applies to the following operating system(s):

Mobile Android

Overview

After completion, you will have your email set up on your mobile Android device.

This tutorial will assist you in syncing your University of Idaho email to your Android device.

Configuring Email Clients on Android Devices

Learn how to configure your University of Idaho email account for Android devices.

Step 1

Before you proceed, you will need to make sure you know your NetID username and password.

Also, please note that because of the multiple versions of Android, your icons or descriptions may be slightly different. However, the process is generally the same across all devices.

Open up your device’s settings menu by finding the settings icon on your home screen or in your list of applications. From the settings menu, scroll to the bottom where your phone’s accounts are listed. Depending on your version of Android, you may need to click the accounts and sync tab to get to these accounts.

Open Settings, then Accounts, then + Add Account
From the settings menu, scroll to where your phone’s accounts are listed. You may have to select "Accounts" then "+ Add Account."

Step 2

Find the add account tab and touch it – this will give you a list of account types to add. Depending on your version of Android, select either Corporate or Exchange ActiveSync.

Select Corporate or Exchange
Depending on your version of Android, select either "Corporate" or "Exchange".

Step 3

Enter your email address and password. Android will attempt to connect but fail — this is to be expected.

Enter your UI credentials
Enter your UI email address and password when prompted.

Step 4

Several new fields will open up. In the server address field, enter outlook.office365.com. Leave the domain field blank. Check the fields to make sure they are correct. In the username field, enter your full email address. Make sure that the server is using an encrypted SSL connection, which will usually be a setting under the server address field. To proceed, tap Next.

Make sure the password and server address is correct.
In the server address field, enter outlook.office365.com.

Step 5

Depending on your version of Android, you will be given an option to sync your contacts, emails, notifications, etc. Select what you want to be synced and proceed by hitting the next button.

Select your sync preferences.
Select what you want to be synced to your device.

Step 6

Your account will be created and syncing will begin. Depending on your device, it might ask for security permissions for using your account as administrator, which you will have to accept for the email to work properly on your device. Please note that if you have many email messages in your inbox, it can take upwards of one hour to sync your phone to your desktop inbox.

Your account is now attached to your device.
Depending on your sync settings, it can take upwards of one hour to sync your device to your desktop inbox.
