New Student Account Setup
This tutorial applies to the following Operating Systems:
Windows - Macintosh
An ITS account was created for you upon admission. This account is used to access resources such as campus email, labs and networks. This tutorial will walk you through setting up an account as a new student.
Step 1: The NetID
The credentials for your account are called your NetID, which usually consists of the first four letters of your last name, followed by four numbers (e.g.vand1234).
As part of the account setup process, you will need to set up a password to protect your information. To begin the account setup process, you will need to have your student ID number or the email address that you provided on your application.
Your student ID number, which you can find on your official University of Idaho acceptance letter, is an eight-digit number of the form xxx-xxxxx (e.g. 123-45678).
If you have one of these two pieces of information, you can proceed to step 2. If you do not know your student ID number and have misplaced your acceptance letter, please call the ITS Help Desk at 208-885-4357.
Step 2: VandalSetup
To begin setup of your account as a newly-admitted student, navigate to the website https://vandalsetup.uidaho.edu and click the next step: go to password reset link at the bottom after reading over the material on the page.
Step 3: Find your Account
For security, you will need to fill out a ReCaptcha box, which will ask you to type in the letters or numbers you see. Once you type in the letters or numbers, click the continue button to proceed.
On the next screen, you will be asked to enter your account name, ID number or email address so the system can find your account. Enter your student ID number or the email address you used on our application and click the lookup button to find your account. If you receive an error message which says, "Account has not been setup for password reset," then please call the Help Desk at 208-885-4357 for assistance.
If your account was successfully found, a list of verified contacts that we have on file for you will come up.
Step 4: Verify your Account
To verify your account, select one of the secondary contacts listed on the page - it can either be an email address or a phone number. Once you select a contact, a new button will pop up with the text Send Code.
Press this button and a security code will be sent to your selected contact. Navigate to your email in another tab, or look for a text message or phone call to your phone, depending on the contact you selected. Find the six-digit security code in the email, text message or voice call and enter the code into the box titled Enter Verification Code. Then press Continue.
You will be taken to the Account Management page and greeted with a pop-up asking you to set your security profile (you can find more information on the security profile here). Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your profiles and set a password for your account.
Once this is done, your NetID account is active and can be used to access VandalWeb, your student Email, Student Lab computers and more!
