The Integrated Design Lab has been working with Bruce Poe at Cole and Poe Architects for several months to provide sustainable design advice on their design for the new Tumble Time Gymnastics facility.
The design boasts may innovative design features. Tremendous day lighting is provided through the building using skylights and clerestory windows and integrated electric lighting responds to available daylight, allowing the electric lights in the building to be off most of the time. All of this combined with an effective natural and mechanical HVAC system results in a building that uses far less energy than a conventional health facility. The gymnasiums alone should yield over 75% electric lighting energy reduction. |
