Dear University of Idaho Alumni and Friends:
It's only one month until the start of fall semester on Aug. 24, and six weeks until the first Vandal football game on Sept. 5 at New Mexico State. I know it still feels like summer, and we still have many events planned for alumni in the next month but I hope you're making plans to join us on campus this fall for our many activities.
If you can't make it to campus, we look forward to seeing you at various sites across the Northwest for Vandal Pride Days in Seattle, Reno and Boise. These include multiple day events with many special guests from the university. Stay tuned for more information.

The Parsons Family - A Century-long Legacy at the University of Idaho
Four generations of the Parsons family have attended or graduated from the University of Idaho, beginning with Lafayette Russell Parsons who brought his family from Detroit, Mich. to Moscow in 1906. He initially taught chemistry at the University, then became comptroller. He also twice served as interim president of the University of Idaho. Lafayette's daughters, Lois Parsons Keane, Dorothy Parsons Chapman, Grace Parsons Aspray and Helen Parsons Brown were all Delta Gammas and graduated from the University. One daughter, Elizabeth Parsons, tragically drowned when she was 11 years old during a family picnic at a pond in Moscow. [more]

Robb Akey, University of Idaho head coach, shakes hands with U.S. Army Sgt. Nathanael Buschmann, from Oregon, Wis., at Camp As Sayliyah, Qatar, July 5. "I'm a big college football fan," said Buschmann. "During the season, I try to watch every game - even the ones that come on at 2 a.m." Akey traveled overseas to show support for military installations in the Middle East with four other National Collegiate Athletic Association head football coaches.
University of Idaho football coach Robb Akey is one of five collegiate football coaches who have just returned from a support tour of military installations in the Middle East. Akey, who begins his third season as the University of Idaho head coach this fall, was joined on the trip by West Point's Chris Smeland, Montana's Bobby Hauck, James Madison's Mickey Matthews, and Rice's David Bailiff.
