Steve Johnson

Welcome from the Executive Director

Dear Alumni & Friends:

Since 1898 the University of Idaho Alumni Association (UIAA) has been the conduit that connects alumni back to the University of Idaho. With more than 90,000 alumni worldwide, the UIAA’s mission is to provide opportunities for you to interact with fellow alumni, and support the University of Idaho.

Once a University of Idaho student reaches 90 credits or a graduate degree, he or she is a part of the alumni community.  This not-for-profit organization is not a dues paying group; you are included automatically and encouraged to participate with your alma mater!  At this point, the alumnus/alumnae will begin receiving the University of Idaho magazine, Here We Have Idaho, as well as news and updates from their respective college and invitations to various alumni events.

The UIAA is governed by a volunteer board of directors who strive to provide opportunities for all alumni to stay connected with the University of Idaho. To meet the needs of our worldwide alumni base, UIAA is continually seeking ways for alumni to become more involved with UIAA and the University of Idaho. As the director of Alumni Relations, I am committed to creating as many opportunities for alumni to remain connected to the University of Idaho as possible.

During this past year, your alumni association has been guided by a very comprehensive long-range plan that assisted the officers and staff as they went about serving the needs of alumni everywhere. Our primary goal this past year has been to reinvent our alumni chapter and club structure, thereby increasing our ability to provide alumni the opportunity to interact with each other. This past year, UIAA staff organized more than 100 events for alumni to attend. These events help us reengage alumni as leaders, spokesmen and advocates who can then tell the wonderful story about the success and advances the University of Idaho has made during the past year.

The University of Idaho has a proud tradition of graduating leaders, and as a result, University of Idaho alumni are recognized as leaders worldwide. Alumni leaders from the University of Idaho also serve as University advocates, student recruiters, college advisers, and provide financial support for students and the University. It goes without saying that the University of Idaho’s success is tied directly to its alumni.

Because the University's success is tied so closely to the alumni base, maintaining a strong and effective alumni association is essential. This is my ongoing commitment to each alumnus. The UIAA will work every day to make it easier and fun for alumni to reconnect with the University, and to make alumni events meaningful and fun while helping alumni to support and promote the University of Idaho’s mission.

Go Vandals!
