College of Agriculture and Life Sciences

The University of Idaho provides one of few interdisciplinary programs in the nation, that allow a student to earn a Master of Science (M.S.) or a Doctor of Science (Ph.D.) degree in water resources through the leading Waters of the West (WoW) program. You may choose one of the following emphases:

  • Engineering and science
  • Science and management
  • Law, management and policy

WoW draws on the expertise of 56 faculty members in seven colleges to integrate aspects of law, natural resources, engineering, political science and more. The program focuses on developing sophisticated strategies and solutions that consider the entire water basin and the many dimensions of water issues. You will have the opportunity to join a faculty-student team performing a holistic water basin or watershed analysis in partnership with stakeholders.

Graduates of this program learn to communicate with professionals in other fields to find creative interdisciplinary solutions to water problems, engage in collaborative research that transcends traditional disciplinary boundaries, learn to interact with stakeholders and communities, and much more.
