Hiring Process: The Kaizen Project

Summary

Kaizen - Kai meaning "to break apart," and Zen meaning "to continuously improve."

Kaizen is a process improvement technique developed by Toyota. Unlike the Six Sigma technique, Kazien involves those employees directly related with the process, instead of upper management. The University of Idaho used this technique to help improve the Hiring Process. This involved bringing in employees from all over campus who were directly involved in the Hiring Process. These employees came from Human Resources, Academic Colleges, Service Departments, the Provost’s Office, and Information Technology Services.

The week long Kaizen Event took place during April of 2011. Through the many debates and great ideas, the group came up with many forms, guidelines, and checklists that will help make the process smoother and more efficient.
