Teaching Tools

In an attempt to increase interactive and hands-on experiences in human factors education, we are providing the teaching-tools site to exchange re-usable and scalable demonstrations or in-class experiments that we have developed at the University of Idaho. We hope that other educators will also use this site to disseminate their teaching enhancements to the human factors and ergonomics community.

Crane Meister demo

This project focusses on issues of spatial compatibility and spatial mapping in designing control interfaces. Students develop their own visual prototype of a control interface for a loading crane that allows them to operate the crane on four dimensions (left-right, in-out, rotation, up-down) and opening and closing the grapple.

Technical requirements:

  • Each visual prototype has to be provided as a 250 x 250 pixel jpg image
  • For each prototype, the html-page controlling the java-script has to be provided with the image map to indicate the locations of the active regions of the interface
