Brandy
Wiegers, (shown demonstrating her inventive solution
to the problem of those suffering from Sleep Apnea), is
a recent graduate in Biological Systems Engineering and
Mathematics. She received the national Goldwater Scholarship,
after participating in two National Science Foundation Research
Experience for Undergraduates programs, one at Penn State
University and the other at the Bermuda Biological Station.
Wiegers, who achieved the UHP's University
Honors Certificate, was also co-winner with UHP graduate
and Honors Certificate recipient Kirsten Johnson (Chemistry
and French) for the Lindley award, given to the outstanding
graduating senior in the UI's College of Letters and Science.
She is currently pursuing graduate studies at UC-Davis's
Ph.D. program in Applied Mathematics, and plans to specialize
in the field of mathematical biology.
