Brandy Wiegers, (shown demonstrating her inventive solution to the problem of those suffering from Sleep Apnea), is a recent graduate in Biological Systems Engineering and Mathematics. She received the national Goldwater Scholarship, after participating in two National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates programs, one at Penn State University and the other at the Bermuda Biological Station.

Wiegers, who achieved the UHP's University Honors Certificate, was also co-winner with UHP graduate and Honors Certificate recipient Kirsten Johnson (Chemistry and French) for the Lindley award, given to the outstanding graduating senior in the UI's College of Letters and Science. She is currently pursuing graduate studies at UC-Davis's Ph.D. program in Applied Mathematics, and plans to specialize in the field of mathematical biology.
