Michael Holcomb, (shown with Smithsonian staff member and advisor, Ian Macintyre) completed an internship at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C., including a research excursion to the Cayman Islands last summer. Holcomb also participated in an NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates in Florida, and plans to continue his studies of coral reef biology on exchange to the University of Hawaii.

Holcomb, who is a 2002 recipient of the highly competitive, national Goldwater Scholarship, is majoring in Biology and Chemistry, and plans to pursue a career in marine biology.
