Eighteen members of the program were inducted into Phi
Beta Kappa and twenty-two into Phi Kappa Phi
for 2003-2004 .
Many UHP students across campus have received other distinctions
for their academic and extracurricular achievements and
are noted in the following examples: these examples are
representative rather than comprehensive of UHP students'
achievements and service.
Jessica Lipschultz was awarded the Ernest K. Lindley
Award for 2004, the highest award a student in the College
of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences can receive, bestowed
upon the college's outstanding senior.
The College of Science awarded the John B. George Award
and the Curtis and Mary Sundquist Undergraduate Research
Award to Michael Holcomb as the outstanding senior in
the college. Michael also received the Dean's Award for
the Departments of Biological Sciences and of Chemistry.
The Luke Award for Excellence in Physics was given
to Jesse Huso.
Jennifer Smith was selected the College of Agricultural
and Life Sciences Outstanding Student in Biological Systems
Engineering. Jennifer also received the Outstanding
Senior Award, Biological Systems Engineering, from the
College of Engineering.
Also receiving Outstanding Senior awards from Engineering
were Leah Kelsey in Civil Engineering and Andy Rajala, Mechanical
Engineering.
Eric Larson received the College of Natural Resources Outstanding
Senior Award.
Cami Johnson will participate in The Research Experience
for Undergraduates at Virginia Tech in Biological Systems
Engineering in the Land and Water Resources Engineering
area. She also plans to participate in a student design
competition (Fountain Wars) at the American Society of Agricultural
Engineers 2004 annual meeting in Ottawa, Canada, this summer
with three other UI students.
Tina Carlson, Hillery Metz, Erik Schweller, and Derek Vance
applied for and were named as 2003-2004 Scholars in the
McNair Post Baccalaureate Achievement Program.
Abbey Lostrom, news editor for the Argonaut, was named editor
in chief for 2004-05.
BRIN Fellows--Several students in the honors program
were selected to spend 10 weeks this summer conducting research
funded by the Idaho Biomedical Research Infrastructure Network:
Viola Fucskó, Audra Johnson, Braden Lang, Hillery
Metz, Rosanna Satterfield, Alexis Snell, Julia Williams,
Ted Yamamato.
Academic Assistance Programs sponsored College Success Series
seminars, culminating with a Scholar Panel: Tips from
Successful UI Students, featuring eight students whose
selection was based on nominations from the honors program
and tutoring services. UHP students Tina Carlson, Kelsey
Nunez, Jessica Lipschultz, and Melissa Curd were selected
to serve.
Lynn Weaver, from Moscow's McDonald Elementary School, contacted
Dr. Flores seeking tutors for their reading program. Honors
Program students Nate Hansen, John Hamilton, Sylivia White,
Katie Hill, James Wagoner, Erich Chapman, Kinsy Hood, Eric
Edwards, Kyle Gantz, Bryn Parker, and Jennifer Wall volunteered
to work one on one with a child for 15-20 minutes, 2 times
a week during the school year. Other UHP students have also
served as mentors for students in the Moscow School District.
