Beginning of Fall Semester

Dear New Honors Program Members:

Welcome to the UI and to the Honors Program; we expect that you have followed the Registration Advice posted under the Honors Academics section and are registered for at least one 3-credit Honors class.

Please plan to attend the Honors Program New Student Orientation on the Sunday immediately before the start of fall semester.  Time and location is listed on the Honors Calendar.  You will have a chance to learn more about the Honors Program, meet new and continuing Honors students, and meet the Honors Student Advisory Board (HSAB). Three new student representatives to the Honors Student Advisory Board are elected at this orientation.

If your parents are in town on the Friday immediately before fall semester classes begin, encourage them to attend the Honors Program Parent Orientation.  Time and location is also listed on the Honors Calendar. the UHP director and a panel of student will provide a preview of the fall semester and answer questions about new students’ transitions to UI and the UHP.

On Saturday, several honors students and the Director will staff an Honors Program Information Table from 5:30pm – 7:00pm at Palousafest, near the Theophilus Tower lawn. Please stop by to introduce yourself!

To maintain standing in the University Honors Program, including eligibility to register for spring honors courses, entering first-year students must enroll in at least one fall semester honors course (minimum of three HON-designated graded credits, such as an Honors ISEM 101 section).  If you are not enrolled in a fall semester honors course, you will become inactive and will no longer be listed as a member of the program (and no longer eligible to enroll in honors courses and to receive other program benefits). If you are inactive yet remain interested in the program, you may request consideration for eligibility to register for spring semester honors courses by contacting the UHP director no later than October, or you may request reinstatement of membership at the end of the fall semester (with a 3.5 UI institutional GPA).

Best wishes!  We look forward to meeting you at the start of the fall semester; and if you have any questions, please send an email to honors@uidaho.edu or give us a call (208-885-6147).

P.S. Also review the university's “To-Do” list at the Admitted Students site, including the link that guides you through the process to set up different accounts, and please remember to start using and checking your official VandalMail account.
