Phylogenetic approach to understanding the systematics, morphology, geography, and ecology of the major species of North American woody plants. This includes identification and classification of important tree species of North America and other important woody plants of the Pacific Northwest and northern Rocky Mountains.

FOR 499 Natural History Collections: Research and Curation
Provides students the opportunity to pursue directed studies in collections based botanical research. Projects are developed in collaboration with the herbarium director and herbarium collections manager and have ranged from performing floristic surveys, data basing of historical collections, and the curation of taxonomically challenging groups, to botanical illustration and the preparation of manuscripts for newly discovered taxa.
