microscope in the herbarium lab

Facility

In 2008 the herbarium was awarded a National Science Foundation Biological Research Collections infrastructure grant that funded the purchase and installation of new herbarium cabinets and mobile storage systems. A new space was identified and remodeled to house the University of Idaho Stillinger Herbarium in the College of Natural Resources. This space allowed for the consolidation of the College of Natural Resource forestry herbarium (IDF) with those from the Stillinger Herbarium. With the move of the vascular plant collection, the non-vascular collection, lichens, and fungi – totaling over 30,000 specimens – were brought out of storage and are now accessible to researchers in the Life Sciences South building on the University of Idaho main campus.
