Stillinger Herbarium

Established in 1892, the University of Idaho Stillinger Herbarium is the largest herbarium in Idaho and functions as the official state repository for more than 200,000 plant specimens.

The herbarium houses over 200,000 specimens of vascular plants, non-vascular plants, lichens, fungi and between 1,000 and 5,000 collections are added annually. More

The herbarium’s collections contribute to a wide variety of research at the University of Idaho and beyond, supporting research in systematics, ecology, floristics, conservation biology, and natural resource management. More

The herbarium and its resources are used for both formal and informal teaching and learning at the University of Idaho. Several College of Natural Resources courses use specimens and teaching collections for instruction. More

With support from the National Science Foundation and the University of Idaho College of Natural Resources, the main home of the Stillinger Herbarium is now located in rooms 22 and 212. More
