At Home - At U of I

When Cody Parker came to the University of Idaho to attain a graduate degree, he wasn’t sure what to expect, but soon found a love for the study of geology and a newfound home in Idaho.

“The thing I love about geology is that it is a hard science, but it considers processes on time scales of which I’ve never considered before,” Parker said. “We often study science using a few years worth of data, but in geology we can observe and reconstruct the past by using current observations. It’s pretty amazing.”

Parker’s research support, which is funded by the MILES (Managing Idaho’s Landscapes for Ecosystem Services) EPSCoR program, which is a part of the National Science Foundation, has enabled him to continue his education, pay for his expenses and devote his time to completing his degree.

“Getting help paying for school has made a huge impact,” he said. “ Money problems can add a lot of stress that can weigh heavily on one’s mind. Having financial assistance has allowed me to be fully devoted to my work. I can’t say how grateful I am for the opportunity.”
