A Path Towards Helping Others

Kelsey Symons finds fulfillment when she’s helping others. In fact, the psychology student had planned to use this interest to pursue a law degree, but like many young students, she found other opportunities of study at UI.

“I have always wanted to build a career that involved helping others,” Symons said. “After taking a psychology course in high school, I decided that psychology was a field that I could put my analytical tendencies to good use.”

Symons says her coursework would be impossible without the numerous opportunities in the form of work, scholarships and other support she’s received while attending the UI.

“My family is unable to assist me financially with college expenses, so I was very blessed to be able to work, at times, two or three part time jobs through the university,” Symons said. “I have also received the Freshmen Access and the Academic Achievement scholarships which has assisted in the cost of books, room and board and other expenses throughout my college career.”
