President Staben's Vision
Students and faculty alike require a platform for success – facilities that enable them to perform to their full capacity and potential. That is equally true for our student-athletes. Our athletic teams have forged a legacy of competitive grit and determination that years ago earned them the nickname we now cherish - the Idaho Vandals.
They play with fervor and passion from start to finish. Competing at the highest level makes added demands on their time, but they do not shrink from such challenges. Their commitment to excel reflects well on each of them, their coaches, and our entire university community.
We owe it to them – and to the entire Vandal family – to do everything in our power to ensure that the facilities in which they train, practice, and compete offer them a platform for success. With this goal in mind, we move forward with ambitious plans for a new sports arena/events center to be located on the north side of the ASUI-Kibbie Activity Center. This new facility will support our men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball teams, as well as serve the campus-wide community for special events.
With a comfortable seating capacity of 4,700, the arena will add immeasurably to the fan experience, rallying support for our teams, enhancing our recruitment, and placing our athletic facilities on an equal footing with our competitors among Division I universities.
Excellence requires commitment on the part of all involved, and we are committed to competing at the highest level of athletic performance. We have secured $15 million toward the estimated $30 million cost of construction and furnishing. We now seek your help to raise the remaining funds. Now is the time for alumni, parents, and all those who take pride in the University of Idaho to come together and build the championship-level platform we need to succeed. I hope you will join our team!
